Living on autopilot means you have stopped being an active participant in your own life. Rather than constantly challenging, motivating, and pushing yourself to do better – you do the same things day after day, without giving your actions much thought. Wake up, go to work, go home, eat dinner, watch TV, go to sleep. Wash, rinse, repeat.

The reality is that most people live on autopilot – and it’s not ideal. That’s because when you’re simply going about your routine, you’re not actively working towards your goals or thinking about how you can improve your life. When this happens, we get stuck in our patterns and we stop moving forward.

Here are three telltale signs you’re living life on autopilot – and how to stop:

1. You think, act, and feel automatically.
Are you complaining about the same things day after day, or year after year? Are you unhappy at work – yet you continue going in every day without taking any steps towards changing your situation? Do you find that it’s difficult to feel excited about the future because nothing ever changes? If so, it’s time to make a new choice about how you’re going to live your life. Instead of simply living with or complaining about your current situation, decide to take action towards creating a life that makes you happy.

2. Your motivation is missing.
Is there something that you really want to accomplish, but you just can’t get motivated? To rediscover your motivation, you need to understand the consequences of not taking action towards creating the life you want. For example, what will happen if this goal remains a dream forever? Can you imagine reaching the end of your life with this dream unrealized?

3. Your limiting beliefs are running the show.
Everyone struggles with limiting beliefs – whether it’s fear, self-doubt, or negative thoughts about your capabilities. To reach your potential, you need to create awareness about what these beliefs are and how they are holding you back. You need to overcome them, remove them, and stop allowing them to have any power over you. Choose to believe in yourself instead. Your ideal life is possible – you just have to do what is necessary to create the results you want.
